The psalms (or Tehillim in Hebrew) of David are divided in 150. You can read here all of them (Tehillim in Hebrew, Tehillim transliterated or Tehillim translated into English ). The shorter psalm has 2 verses (Psalm 117) and the longer has 176 (Psalm 119). Five unequal chapters share the whole. Tehillim / Psalms: Rabbi Nosson Scherman, Rabbi Hillel Danziger: : Books
Xml editor for coding aiml for mac. I highly recommend this edition of Psalms for those who want a good translation alongside the original Hebrew. The text is printed clearly, the layout is beautiful and the book itself is very aesthetically pleasing.
Commentary is throughout, which helps illuminate unclear passages. It tehillin for a wonderful prayer book and a travel companion. I am grateful for the fact that Artscroll publishes such high quality editions of Psalms, the Tanach and the Chumash.
This is a lovely copy of Psalms. Of course, if the font was larger, the book would be as well; IMO they found a good balance. Even though it’s paperback, the cover is tough enough that I carry it in a side pocket of my purse without worrying.
It’s a great size to carry and I love having it in reach all the time. I’ll leave comments on the text to those who are fluent in Hebrew, but as someone who was raised Christian and is still in the process of converting, it’s interesting reading something other than the florid King James version. I’m very happy with this, and I think anyone who is happy with this translation will be as well, unless they have significant aryscroll with smaller fonts. One person found this helpful.
I returned it because the print was too small for me.
Otherwise, it was a lovely compact edition with a quality binding. I wish I could have read it more easily.
I really love this Artscroll Tehillim. I say my daily Tehillim with it every day. It has the Hebrew text on the right side of the page, with an English translation on the left side. It has indications in it that tell the reader the proper portion to read by day of the week, if one wants to read all five books of Tehillim in a week, as well as the portion to read by date, if one wants to finish all five books in a month.
There are extensive commentaries at the bottom of every page which are more extensive than in the Artscroll Tehillim as printed in the Artscroll Tanach that explain the meaning of the words. There are headings above every Psalm, which gives an overview of what the chapter is about. It’s a very handy version of Tehillim. My one issue is that I wish the translators would have gone with a more literal English translation of the original Hebrew.
The translation is in “modern” English, so “thy” is translated here as “your” and “thou” here translated as “you”. I think the translators of this edition are trying to make the Psalms more accessible to a wider audience, but I would have preferred a more “old-school” English translation.
This is why I give The Artscroll Tehillim four out of five stars. Overall, though, a very good translation. We bought the hard covert Tehillim book because we expect that our daughter will read it often, which she is doing. The book is of a convenient size: The binding is tight and the pages are crisp, which is what I expect from a new hard-cover book.
The book of Psalms provides you artscrkll the ability to connect with G-d on a higher and deeper level. This particular yehillim has amazing commentary and contains the text in both Hebrew and English. Great sized little book with clear print in a good size font.
Plenty of commentary and introductory information, and some a couple indices listing the psalms by alphabetical order, occasion, holiday, etc. See all 37 reviews. You can freely download and copy the text for individual chapters of Tehillim or Mishlei. There is no restriction on non-commercial reproduction of this material on a chapter-by-chapter basis. However, you may not publish it in book form or put it to any commercial use.
In the case of Mishlei, the pesukim within each chapter are also grouped in segments, consisting of one or more pesukim that present a coherent idea. You may reproduce individual segments or entire chapters, as long as the material is not being put to commercial use and is not published in book form.
What makes Nafshi unique?
Nafshi was originally developed to meet the challenge of those who have difficulty in understanding what they are saying when they recite Tehillim. The fact that each posuk can be interpreted in many ways adds to the richness of the text but makes it more challenging to get a feeling for the meaning. Pre 1980 vin number lookup. The train of thought leading from one posuk to another is often unclear. Although there are many meforshim on Tehillim they cannot be absorbed without concentrated study.
Nafshi was designed to make Tehillim more accessible and so the literal words of each mizmor have been expanded to include the implied words that David might have used if he wanted to be less ambiguous (albeit less poetic). Additional linkage text has been incorporated within the translation to help establish the flavor, not just of a posuk, but of the entire flow of meaning. In addition, where a mizmor contains passages corresponding to the words of different speakers, these are clearly indicated.
Conventional translations are severely restricted by the fact that one translation cannot possibly convey the wide variety of interpretations that are out there. To resolve this problem Nafshi presents a single coherent view of the simple p'shat, reflecting the thoughts of as many meforshim as possible, but oriented to whatever makes the text more relevant to our present generation. A source index is generally included at the end of each chapter or segment, identifying the sources used for each posuk.
Recently Nafshi has been expanded to include Mishlei. The same basic techniques have been used, although more emphasis has been placed on exploring the theme of each segment.
